In Toika-Shop you will find equipment for weaving, spinning, felting, bobbin lace and tufting. We have a wide selection of yarns and weft for rag rugs as well as handicraft books. Our loom models are exhibited in the show-room. There are also plenty of handicrafts with instructions and lots of other things that interest both weaving hobbyists and professionals. Come to see and feel them – and bring your friends, too!

Our shop is located in the centre of Toijala in the town of Akaa. It is easy to drop by: Choose exit 31 from highway 3 or walk 500 meters from Toijala railway station.

History
Toika is an old family business that has been owned by the same family throughout its history. The company was founded by Gustaf Pihlgren in 1898 in Kauhava.
The first products were woven railings. At that time, handrails, which were previously made by hand, were the first to be manufactured mechanically in Finland. In the picture, factory worker Fritjof Pihola, Gustaf Pihlgren’s son, next to the first railing machine. Fritjof lived to be over 100 years old.
In 1920, the company moved to Toijala to be closer to its customers. The product range increased to cover the most important weaving tools.
After the Second World War, looms also began to be manufactured. The country was being rebuilt and there was a severe shortage of all goods.
In the 1960s, the export of e.g. Stateside. In the 1970s, loom production expanded and the collection developed. Weaving courses aimed at foreign weavers were organized. Loimien lomassa magazine started to appear.
Fairs have already been participated at an early stage and quality awards have been received even from the time of Russian rule in St. Petersburg.
During the summer events, we traveled with a show car, which conveniently turned into a fair stand.
In the 1980s, computer-controlled and pneumatic looms were developed. In the following decade, salon fabric trees were born to meet new needs, and handcraft yarns were added to the selection.
2002 Toika also started manufacturing nursery and school furniture made of solid birch.
