Computer Looms

Toika has produced computer controlled looms since 1980s. The weaving boxes, connected either to new looms or older countermarch looms, have become really popular due to their service reliability, handiness and versatility.

Attach the box to the beams, tie the shafts to the unit, connect it to a PC or laptop and start weaving. It is easy to design and carry out a pattern with WeavePoint 7 program. All the tie-up options are available at all times. The unit takes care of the necessary tie-ups. You only use one pedal that changes the shed. No effort is needed on the pedal, because the unit controls the shed opening.

Selecting one of the three weaving modes is easy: fast, normal and slow. The type of the work and the personal habits determine which mode is best. The boxes move in two directions, which enlarges the shed. In addition, Toika boxes even the shed automatically as the motion of the further shafts is larger than the closer ones.

Description

The result of 30 years of research and development, and building on the legendary quality and reliability of the EW series, the new Toika ES series brings you an even faster and more powerful product for your weaving enjoyment.

ES Computer Assist Looms are offered 16 shaft, 24 shaft and 32 shaft configurations. Traditional weaving looms are based on treadles, lamms, and jacks. Your Toika ES computer assist loom replaces all of those parts with a single pedal – much like that on a sewing machine.

The pedal means that the weaver requires no strain or effort to lift multiple shafts – something literally impossible to do easily with a standard loom. Compared to its predecessor EW models, the ES series brings the owner improved electronics, an even longer working life, easier maintenance and fewer mechanical components.

Powered by the latest version of Weavepoint Software, The ES loom operates alongside a computer equipped with Microsoft Windows and one open USB port. The unit has a direct connection to the USB port – just plug it in, turn on the loom and then the computer and the weaver is ready to go.

The ES control unit, contained in a sleek and beautifully designed outer case, is directed by the computer and software to select the appropriate shafts and open the shed automatically. The shed is a true countermarche – shafts that are programmed to rise do rise and those that are programmed to sink do sink. Sheds are also even throughout as the ES unit automatically compensates for the shafts that are farthest from the weaver.

ES units also allow the weaver to select from three weaving modes. Fast mode closes the shed on one pick and opens the next one with a pedal press. Slow mode opens the shed with one press of the pedal and closes the shed with another. Normal mode opens the shed and allows it to stay open as long as the pedal stays pressed. If the weaver wants to unweave, there is a reverse mode.

The new ES series allows the weaver to spend more time planning projects and designing fabrics while essentially eliminating treading and tie up errors.

Toika ES units also can be installed on practically all manual Toika looms so that owners can enjoy computer assisted weaving.
And many other brands of Scandinavian type looms can be fitted with the ES system as well.

We have already nearly 1000 computer loom customers in more than 30 countries! Here are some comments:

“It is simple. The ‘box’ that sits on top of the loom, controlling all the shafts – I ‘only’ have 24- is an engineering marvel. There are so few moving parts and even though the ‘slides’ that activate the shafts are metal, they do not produce a harsh sound. There is a ‘reverse’ button in the cockpit that makes correcting a selvage loop faster and easier than even my 4-shaft CB – it is genius!” -Kati, USA

“The loom is working like a dream, I am very happy with my purchase! If anyone asks where to buy a loom I will recommend you.” -Sarah, Great Britain

“The ability to switch to tabby weave is so very useful at either end of each piece too. There’s much more I could say but I’m sure you’ve heard it all before from other happy customers.” -Carolyn, Great Britain

“I’ve been weaving lots on my Liisa loom, I’m very happy with it!” -Laura, Great Britain

“Super smoothly! am totally happy with it. I have recommended it many times.” -Catarina, Great Britain

“Oh we got so many beautiful patterns to weave now)))” -Olga, Belarus

“Lots of the woven fabrics and designs out of my workshop require the use of my computer assist loom from Toika. The work with this loom influenced my professional career peculiar positive. Thank you very much for the longtime reliable cooperation to Jukka Yrjölä from Toika.” -Lucia, Germany
